Heavy rains bring traffic troubles for Delhiites

Delhiites had a harrowing time today as vehicles waded through waterlogged stretches following heavy rains in the city.

Long tailbacks were seen across the national capital after it received 59.0 mm rainfall.

A senior traffic police officer said additional staff was deployed to manage the traffic situation and reserve staff was called in to help commuters.

Regular tweets were sent out by the Delhi Traffic Police's Twitter handle, cautioning people about waterlogged roads and stretches.

People were stuck in jams on several key stretches in south Delhi like Moolchand, Modi Mill flyover, Pul Prahladpur underpass, Savitri Cinema flyover, Moti Bagh, Chirag Dilli and Saket.
 

Major intersections like Ashram Chowk, Britannia Chowk, Kashmere Gate, ITO, Mukarba Chowk, Mehrauli-Badarpur road, Mehrauli-Gurgaon road also witnessed chock-a-block situation.

The traffic situation worsened a bit as a DTC bus broke down on the Raj Nagar flyover, affecting the traffic movement between the flyover and Safdarjung.

Many residents also took to Twitter to share about their traffic woes.
