Heavy rains cause flooding in Kota

Heavy rainfall lashed Kota district in Rajasthan over the last 48 hours causing floods in several residential colonies in the district even as one person was found dead and another missing in different places.

An unidentified old man was found dead tangled in bushes of flooding brook in Udhyognagar police station area of the city, police said.

In another incident, two youths were rescued today after being trapped when Chandresh river suddenly overflowed due to rains in Hathikheda village in Bodekheda police station area.

Kota city ASP, Rajan Dushyant said Suresh (22) and Sunil (23) had taken their ox to graze in the jungle near Chandresh river in Hathikheda village in the morning.
 

"The river suddenly overflooded with water and the youths found themselves trapped amid surrounding water," he said.

The duo managed to climb up to a high tree and were rescued by personnel of Disaster Relief Team at noon, he said.

A 65-year-old man was missing after an overflowing canal caused flooding in Kishorepura police station area of the city.

Search operations continued throughout the day for Vilayat Hussein, police said.

Due to heavy rains, houses in over 12 colonies including Vigyannagar, Dadabari, Anantpura and Bardabasti, were flooded.

People were said to have climbed onto roofs to save themselves in Anantpura area of Kota city.
