Rain-related incidents claimed eight lives in Uttar Pradesh while heavy showers in Kashmir Valley led to suspension of the ongoing Amarnath yatra today even as people in the national capital experienced a hot and humid day.
A hot and sultry weather persisted at the national capital today with the mercury remaining one notch above the normal.
According to MeT department, the day temperature settled at 34.6 degree Celsius, which was normal for this part of the year. Minimum temperature was recorded at 26.1 deg C, little bit higher than the normal.

In Uttar Pradesh, moderate to heavy showers lashed several areas of Uttar Pradesh, leading to the death of eight persons in several rain-related incidents even as the south-west monsoon remained normal over the state.
According to relief commissioner's office, five people in Kaushambi, two in Allahabad and one in Sitapur died in incidents of lightning and house collapse.
Major rivers in the state, including Ganga and Yamuna, continued to flow above the danger mark during their courses at several places.
The Met officials forecast that rain and thundershowers would occur at many places over the state in the next 24 hours.
