Heavy rains disrupt normal life in city

Water ran knee-deep in many parts of the city which were lashed by heavy rains this evening.

Residents in several parts of Central, north and south Kolkata faced inconvenience due to waterlogging. The areas affected were parts of Ballygunge, arterial Chittaranjan Avenue, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Zakaria Street, Bidhan Sarani, College Street and Strand Road.

The underpasses at Patipukur and Dum Dum in northern fringe of the city were also waterlogged due to the heavy rainfall.

Heavy traffic jams were witnessed following the rainfall forcing the Traffic Police to divert routes of vehicles.

According to the Met office, heavy rain may continue throughout the night.
 

"Cloudy skies with one or two spell of rains and thundershowers in parts of the city is also expected tomorrow," the weathermen said.
