The weather office forecast heavy rainfall in Gangetic West Bengal till tomorrow, as there were sporadic rains in the metropolis marring Janmastami celebrations today.

"Heavy rain may occur at a few places over West Bengal and Odisha during next 24 hours," regional met director G C Debnath said here.

In the last 24 hours till 5:30 pm today, 51.5 mm rainfall was recorded in the city.

Heavy rain might also occur at a few places over Bihar and Jharkhand during next 48 hours, he said.

"A low pressure over Gangetic West Bengal has shifted toward Jharkhand. The weather is likely to improve from tomorrow," Debnath said.

Water-logging of low-lying areas in several parts of the metropolis affected Janmastami celebrations with the day being a holiday in most government offices and educational institutions.
