The coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have been reeling under heavy rains which started two days ago and is continuing causing heavy loss to agricultural property and many houses.
The incessant rains grew stronger yesterday causing widespread damage with power failure reported from several places. The Nethravati and Kumaradhara rivers in the region are overflowing and many of the bridges across them are submerged in water.
Water is flowing over the bridge connecting Kukke- Subrahmanya temple across Kumaradhara River disrupting the movement of vehicles on Subrahmanya-Mangalore State Highway, officials said.

Police and the home guard are posted along the flooded areas to ensure that the vehicles do not take the flooded roads.
State Minister of forests, B Ramanath Rai instructed the revenue officials to take emergency measures to ensure the safety of people.
Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district authorities have declared holiday today for all educational institutions in the districts. Schools in the districts remained closed yesterday also.
