Heavy rains lashed Chandigarh and many parts of Haryana and Punjab today, causing mercury to dip by few notches, MeT department said here today.

The 45 minutes of heavy showers around 10:45 am this morning left many roads in Union Territory of Chandigarh and some low-lying areas waterlogged.

Motorists, especially those riding two-wheelers, faced difficult time wading through pools of water accumulated on the city roads and roundabouts.

Rains brought mercury down by a few notches providing relief to the people here who had been facing sultry weather for the past few days.

In Haryana as well, particularly in the National Capital Region of Gurgaon, Faridabad, Rewari, and Sonepat people woke up to rainy weather, the MeT department said.

The department said rains also lashed Ambala, Panchkula, Yamunanagar, Karnal and few other places as well in Haryana.

In Punjab wet weather prevailed at many places including at Mohali, Ropar, Phagwara, Patiala, and Ludhiana, according to the MeT department.

The MeT Department here has forecast more rains in the two states and Chandigarh until tomorrow.
