Heavy rains today lashed most parts in Jharkhand, paralysing normal life.

"Rainfall has occurred in Jharkhand with heavy rains in most of the places. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in some places in the next 24 hours," Ranchi Met Office Director G K Mohanty said.

A low pressure intensified and under its influence more rains are expected, he said, adding that an average 50 mm rainfall occurred during the last two days in the state.

The rainfall in the state recorded from June 1 till now is 584.2 mm as against the normal average of 760 mm, he said.

While many districts are catching up average rainfall, some districts like Chatra and Koderma still have deficit rains, he added.

Weather Scientist with Birsa Agriculture University A Wadood advised farmers to go for alternative crops.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren had on Monday announced relief measures following a drought-like situation in the state.
