Normal life was affected in lower hills of Himachal Pradesh as heavy rains lashed several places in Kangra, Una, Hamirpur and Bilspur.
About 125 people were marooned in Markanda river near Dhimki Shiva Temple, about 9-km from Nahan, along Nahan-Paonta-Dehradun highway, as discharge of water increased suddenly due to heavy rains in catchment area.
However, the marooned people were rescued by teams of police and home guards assisted by local people who entered the river from Kuhan- Nehrla foot path after strenuous efforts of more than two hours.
Palampur was wettest in the region with 134 mm of rains while Dharamsala had 62 mm rains till this evening.
Jogindernagar had 128 mm of rains while Baijnath received 120 mmm of rains, followed by Amb 86 mm, Dharamsala 65 mm, Jhandutta 47 mm, Renuka 43 mm, Paonta Sahib 38 mm, Kheri 35 mm, Ghamroor 34 mm, Kangra 33 mm, Bhoraj 25 mm, Nahan and Bhuntar 24 mm, Guler 23 mm, Sujanpur Tira 20 mm, Bhoranj 16 mm and Banjar 14 mm.
Mercury dropped by few notches and Una was hottest during the day with maximum temperature at 32.8 degrees Celsius while Dharamsala recorded a high of 28.4 deg, followed by Sundernagar 26.9 deg, Bhuntar 25.4 deg, Solan 24.5 deg, Nahan 23.5 deg, Shimla 20.9 deg and Kalpa 20.0 deg C.
