Heavy rains likely in north eastern states

Heavy rains accompanied by strong wind is likely to lash the north eastern states for the coming four days due to a depression formed over the Bay of Bengal, the met department warned today.

The depression over the Bay of Bengal has moved north-northeast-wards moving and intensified into a deep depression.

It crossed Bangladesh coast near Khepupara between 0430 and 0530 hours today.

"The system is very likely to continue to move north-northeast-wards and weaken into a depression. It is likely to cause heavy rainfall in most places of Meghalaya, Assam and the rest of the North Eastern states," the met department said.
 

Besides, squally wind with a speed of 30-40 kmph would prevail over Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura for two days, it said.

Meanwhile, three persons were injured and two vehicles damaged when trees fell on them during rains here today, police said.
