Heavy rush at Kerala temples on first day of Chingam

Temples in Kerala were thronged by large number of devotees this early morning commemorating the first day of the Malayalam New Year, Chingam.

The auspicious first day in the Malayalam calendar is welcomed by special prayers and ceremonies.

The hill shrine of Lord Ayyappa was opened last evening for the monthly pooja for Chingam.

Padmanabha Swamy and Pazhavangadi Lord Ganesha Pazhavangadi temples here witnessed a heavy rush of pilgrims on the occasion.

Chingam is also of great significance as Onam, the biggest fesitval in Kerala, is celebrated in this month.

Kerala Governor Justice (Retd) P Sathasivam greeted Malayalees all over the world on the occasion of Chingam which honours the contributions of the farmers who strive to sustain the agricultural tradition of the state.
