Hefty increase in grants for gallantry award winners in TN

Tamil Nadu government today announced hefty increase in the grants to recipients of gallantry awards and distinguished services medals hailing from the state.

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa announced her government will increase the cash benefits by 50-100 per cent, resulting in a Rs 50 lakh annual expenditure to the state exchequer.

The grant for recipients of Param Vir Chakra will be enhanced from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 25 lakh while Ashok Chakra recipients will receive Rs 20 lakh as against the existing Rs 12 lakh.

Grants for recipients of Mahavir Chakra, Keerthi Chakra and Shourya Chakra had also been increased.
 

The announcements for the Public Department, held by Jayalalithaa, were made by Finance Minister O Panneerselvam in the state Assembly.
