Swiss author Johanna Spyri's beloved children's novel "Heidi" is getting a big screen adaptation.
Sheetal Talwar of Vistaar Entertainment is producing the movie with Simon Wright of Big Tree Productions. Paul Watson has written the script.
Talwar, who had produced the 2007 National-Award-winning film "Dharm", said Heidi as a character is relevant even today though the novel was written in 1881.

"Heidi is undoubtedly one of the most loved Children's' books. When Simon and Paul came to us with the story and the wonderful adaptation of it, we knew this was something that just had to be made.
"Heidi as a character is so relevant in our current times and we believe the audiences, both kids and parents alike will get this opportunity to discover and rediscover the character and the ethos of it all," Talwar told PTI.
"Heidi" is about the events in the life of a young girl in her grandfather's care, in the Swiss Alps and was written as a book "for children and those who love children". The novel has had multiple film, TV and theatrical adaptations. It will be shot on location in the Swiss Alps later this year.
Talwar is building the movie as an independent film without hampering the subject.
"We are way into setting up this film, although it is an independent film, it is being set up in a scale that will not compromise the film. We will make announcements of the same shortly and some exciting ones at that."
Besides "Heidi", Talwar will also be producing filmmaker Onir's upcoming movie "Veda".
"We are committed to backing good quality content, irrespective of its language or geography. We are looking at some very interesting projects and are currently also producing Onir's 'Veda', a wonderful feature adaptation to the classic 'Hamlet'.
