Taking a serious note of lawyers in Madurai and nearby areas defying the state government order on mandatory wearing of helmets by two-wheeler riders, the Madras High Court today asked Additional Advocate General P H Aravind Pandian to spell out the action taken against those who defied it.
A group of 100 advocates in Madurai had taken out a bike rally on July 3 in the city without wearing helmets in protest against the order and were booked by police.
When the helmet case came up today for further hearing, Justice Kirubakaran wanted to know from the government what action had been taken against those who wilfully violated the court order, which is a mandatory provision of Motor Vehicles Act as well.

The AAG then said he would ascertain the details and file a report in the court on Monday.
The judge then adjourned the case to that day.
The Madras High Court had, in an order on June 8, made it clear that wearing of helmets by two-wheeler riders is a must and documents including driving license must be impounded in case of failure to do so.
On June 30, the HC dismissed a petition moved against the state government's order.
