Chandigarh administration today launched a dedicated helpline number and Facebook page to provide timely help to the people from North East residing here and in adjacent areas.
The page 'Chandigarh Administration for the people of North East' and toll-free helpline number- 1800-180-2130 was inaugurated by Vijay Dev, Adviser to the Administrator, UT Chandigarh.
Speaking on the occasion, Dev said such initiatives will provide a sense of assurance and safety to the North-East community.

"With the united efforts of the committee along with strict action taken by the Chandigarh Police in cases of assault, the objective of safeguarding and protecting North-East people against any type of crime would be achieved," said Adviser.
Notably, five students from Sikkim were injured at a college here after they were allegedly assaulted by another group of students from Himachal Pradesh over racist remarks. The incident had taken place on Tuesday evening at a private college in Mullanpur, on the outskirts of the city, following which police had arrested 10 people.
