Herd of wild elephants stray into Kalaikunda forest range

A herd of 30 wild elephants today strayed into Kalaikunda forest range of West Midnapore district triggering fear among villagers.

A senior forest official said the herd was now staying at Manikpara, Sortia, Barobari hamlets under the forest range and already destroyed land of over 15 hectars of land.

The herd, which was on way from Odisha to Dalma yesterday, changed their route and strayed into the habitations.

They were now under close observation of the forest department.

Another herd of 65 jumbos were also headed to the area but later on changed the route and swam across Kangsabati to reach the area on the other side.
