Five kg of heroin with a street value of Rs 25 crore was seized near Canal Bridge in Kohali village here by the Special Narcotic Cell of Punjab police today.
One accused from whom the consignment was recovered has been arrested and he was identified as Palwinder Singh, a resident of Lopoke village here, police said.
However, his associate identified as Gurjit Singh, resident of Kakkar village managed to escape on a bike, they said.

During preliminary inquiry, the accused told police that he was in touch with a Pakistan-based heroin smuggler and some Indian smugglers.
The consignment was smuggled from Pakistan, police said, adding that investigations are on to find out from where the consignment of heroin was pushed into the Indian territory.
A case under various sections of Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused, they said.
