Heroin worth Rs 4.5 cr seized in Meghalaya

A woman and a juvenile from Manipur were arrested from East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya after heroin valued at over Rs 4 crore was seized from them, the police said on Monday.

The two were travelling in a bus which was seized as foreign branded cigarettes also were being transported illegally in it.

Acting on tip-off, the Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) of the district police intercepted the passenger bus coming from Manipur to Shillong at Mawrynkneng village on Sunday.

The drug weighing around 930 gram was found in 80 boxes of soap kept in three bags belonged to the woman, district superintendent of police Claudia A Lyngwa told reporters.

 

The juvenile accompanying the arrested woman was sent to a children's home.

Following interrogation of the driver and conductor of the bus, the ANTF personnel found three hidden compartments in the vehicle, from where foreign made cigarettes were seized, the police officer said.
