Police today arrested a person and recovered 13 kg of heroin worth Rs 65 crore in the street market here, a senior official said.
Acting on a tip off, police stopped a vehicle coming towards Tarn Taran and recovered heroin, four pistols, 20 cartridges, a mobile with Pakistani sim card and cash worth Rs 36 lakh from Gurjit Singh, a resident of Rasulpur, said Ishwar Chander, IGP, Border Zone, Punjab.
However, a group of smugglers in another vehicle who were following the vehicle sped away after watching the police team, he said.

Chander said during preliminary investigation, it was revealed that a gang of drug smugglers was in constant touch with a Pakistan-based smuggler Nasir Hussain and they used Pakistani mobile for taking delivery of drugs and weapons which was supposed to be supplied in other parts of the country.
The other members of this gang were identified as Vicky Kumar, Jagjit Singh Jaggi, Avtar Singh, Nirvail Singh, Harshanpreet Singh, Gurjant Singh Bholu and Amarjit Singh who would be nabbed soon, the IGP said.
