Cyberabad police today busted a gang allegedly involved in facilitating hi-tech mass copying in the Railway Recruitment Board examination being conducted at various centres in Hyderabad and other parts of the country and arrested 30 persons in this connection.
A total of 30 persons, including a railway employee and 10 candidates, were arrested in this connection.
"The Special Operation Team (SOT) of Cyberabad Police conducted a raid at Salarjung water pump at Upparguda railway gate near Moula-Ali railway quarters here and apprehended 20 persons (all gang members) and seized electronic devices used for mass copying during examination at various centres of Hyderabad, Tirupathi, Vijayawada and some other places of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh," a release from Cyberabad police said.
The main accused, identified as Machender, is a railway employee who allegedly lured gullible candidates by collecting Rs 5 lakh from each of them by providing electronic devices.
Machender formed a team consisting of Iliyas, Varun, Giridhar, Venkatesh, Ashok, and Srinivas who prepared answers on laptops provided to them. Machender's main activity was collecting question papers from the examination centre where RRB exam is being conducted and send it through mobile messaging service 'WhatsApp' to Varun, the release said.
"The team members prepared answers through internet and other papers. After procuring answers to the questions they informed the candidates (from whom amount was collected) at the examination centre.
"Such candidates took the electronic device containing SIM card and one ear-pin like Bluetooth. The candidates were then writing exams with electronic devices provided by Machender and his gang," as per the release.
After the raid, three police teams were immediately rushed to different exam centres in Hyderabad from where they arrested 10 candidates and seized electronic devices with in-built SIM cards, laptops, printer, ear-pins like Bluetooth, cellphones, data cards and cables, 17 motorcycles from their possession, the release added.
