A high alert was sounded across Uttar Pradesh today in the wake of a terror attack in Gurdaspur district of Punjab.

"All divisional commissioners, district magistrates and police chiefs have been directed to ensure patrolling in sensitive places and ask local intelligence units to remain alert," Principal Secretary (Home) Devashis Panda said.

They have also been instructed to ensure checking of crowded places like cinema halls, malls, bus and railway stations with the help of anti-sabotage and bomb disposal squads, he said, warning that no laxity will be tolerated.

"District administration has been made responsible for maintaining communal amity and law and order," he said.

Four heavily armed terrorists wearing army fatigues today went on a rampage attacking a bus and a police station complex, leaving five persons, including a policeman, dead and several injured at Dina Nagar area in Gurdaspur district bordering Pakistan.
