High court confirms conviction in sex scandal case

Kerala High Court today confirmed the conviction and sentence of six accused, including three college lecturers, in a sex scandal case.

Justice P Bhavadasan also enhanced the fine amount awarded by session court, Kottayam and directed the lecturers of NSS College, Pandalam, to pay Rs six lakh to the victim.

The prosecution case was that the accused gang-raped the victim, a third year student of the college, during in 1997.

The accused were punished for a term differing from 11 years to seven years and fine aggregating to Rupees six lakhs.

One of the accused who was also a lecturer of college, expired after trial.
 

The High Court observed that the act committed by the accused shocked conscience of the court. The court also criticised the teachers who have driven the promising young girl to sex net.
