Allahabad High Court has issued warrants against Registrars of Banaras Hindu University and Aligarh Muslim University to ensure their presence before it in connection with compliance of its earlier order in which it had directed that patients are entitled to a copy of medical records at the time of their discharge.

Lucknow bench comprising Justices Devi Prasad Singh and Arvind Kumar Tripathi issued bailable warrants against the Registrars to ensure their presence alongwith compliance report of the judgement.

Registrars of both the universities were not present in the court yesterday. Since no affidavit or compliance report was filed by them, the court issued the warrants.

State counsel prayed for and was granted further one week's time for compliance of the court's earlier order.

The court fixed December 17 as the next date of hearing and cautioned that in case the order was not complied with, the Principal Secretary medical health and family welfare, UP shall appear in person.

Compliance report filed by the counsel of KGMU, Lucknow, was taken on record.

The court on September 12 had ruled that patients were entitled a copy of medical records at the time of discharge/end of treatment.

Under this ruling, all clinical establishments, private or government of different branches --- Homeopathy, Ayurvedic, Unani, and Allopathic are covered.
