The Orissa High Court today rejected bail pleas of businessman and High-Tech Group Chairman Tirupati Panigrahi and two of his associates, on the ground that probe into the cases against them are still continuing.

The single-judge bench of Justice B N Mohapatra, which had reserved the verdict after completing the hearing on bail pleas on March 20, pronounced the judgment saying the Court is not inclined to grant bail to the applicants now as they are influential persons in the society and could tamper with the evidence.

Panigrahi and his associates were arrested in December last year by the economic wing of the crime branch police on charges of fraudulent land deals and cheating.

The police had registered five cases against the three persons.
