The writ petition was filed by the movie's director on the ground that the movie was not intended to hurt anybody. It is totally misconceived to view the movie's dialogues in a particular context against a particular community, it said.

He contended that the movie should be viewed as a means of entertainment and not otherwise.

Justice K C Bhanu who heard arguments on the writ petition suspended the operation of the government order and directed the government to file its counter affidavit.

The state government issued the government order after protests by Brahmin community associations that their community was portrayed by the movie in a poor light.
