High drama was today witnessed in the court premises for over six-hours when a Sub-Inspector tried to arrest an advocate, leading to a stand-off with police personnel and lawyers, culminating in the SI's arrest.
Trouble began when the SI Sankaranarayanan belonging to the Chemmanjeri police station came in a car with some complainants and tried to arrest and drag advocate Beysil inside the vehicle.
Assistant Commissioner of Police of High Court Murali and the Deputy Commissioner of Police Nirmal Kumar rushed to the spot and SI was guarded by police.

Advocate Beysil told reporters that police tried to arrest members of his family in connection with an attack on one Dr Subbiah. The family had approached the court and filed anticipatory bail pleas but when it came up, police informed the court that no case was pending.
When he explained this to the SI, he tried to drag him inside the car.
High Court Judges R Sudhakar, M Sathyanarayanan, N Kirubakaran, D Hariparanthaman, R S Ramanathan, held discussions with police officials and advocates for more than six hours.
Finally it was decided to register a FIR and the SI was arrested, sources said.
The Registrar General after getting the instructions from a team of Judges announced that the Sub-inspector will be sent to remand after registration of FIR.
