High-level meeting between Indian, Bangla Coastguard personnel

A high-level meeting between Indian Coast Guard and Bangladesh Coast Guard officers took place here to explore avenues for common approach to maritime issues in the region, a release from the Coast Guard said.

Rear Admiral Mohammad Makbul Hossain, Director General Bangladesh Coast Guard led the Bangladesh delegation comprising officials from Bangladesh Coast Guard and Bangladesh Ministry of Home Affairs during its two-day visit to the city, it said.

The delegation visited Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (North East) yesterday and interacted with Inspector General VSR Murthy, PTM, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (North East), it added.

During yesterday's deliberations, the delegation was briefed about the initiatives of the Indian Coast Guard in ensuring safety of fishermen in distress at sea, protection of marine environment including conservation of Olive Ridley sea turtles and security of coastal areas, the release said.
 

Both sides also exchanged views on areas of cooperation and synergy of efforts towards safe and secure seas in the region.

The delegation today visited M/S Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) and interacted with CMD who briefed it about the shipbuilding capabilities and facilities at GRSE, it stated.

The visit was part of the ongoing cooperation between the Coast Guard of the two countries aiming at exploring avenues for common approach to maritime issues in the region.
