High speed winds across Pamban bridge force stoppage of train

: High velocity winds blowing across the century old Pamban bridge today forced railways to stop the Madurai-Rameswaram passenger train at Pamban this evening.

The train was brought back to Mandapam. Consequently, the Madurai-Rameswaram passenger train was partially cancelled between Mandapam and Rameswaram.

The Rameswaram-Madurai passenger train, scheduled to leave Rameswaram at 1800 hrs, was partially cancelled between Rameswaram and Mandapam and left Mandapam for Madurai at 2030 hrs, a railways press release said

The delay was to accommodate passengers from Rameswaram who came by road from Rameswaram to Mandapam to board this train, it said.

After the wind velocity decreased at around 2040 hrs, Railways said they decided to operated delayed trains like Rameswaram-Chennai Express and Rameswaram-Coimbatore weekly Express.
