High wave warning for south TN till 12 June

A high wave warning of 3 to 3.5 meters for South Tamil Nadu region till June 12 was today issued by Hyderabad-based Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services, which advised fishermen to be cautious while venturing into the sea.

"High waves in the range of 3.0-3.5 metres are predicted along Kolachal to Kilakarai of Southern Tamil Nadu," the centre, which comes under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, said on its website.

The prediction is for the duration between today and till 23:30 hours on June 12.

Current speeds vary between 71-92 cm/sec, it said under the "Indian Ocean Forecast System" predictions on its site.
 

"Strong winds from Southwesterly direction speed occasionally reaching 45-55 km per hour is likely along and off South Tamil Nadu coast," the centre said.

"Fishermen are advised to be cautious while venturing into the sea," it said.

Similar warnings have been given for states, including Karnataka and Kerala.
