The elections to the Haryana Assembly on October 15 will see record number of 109 women in the fray, the highest ever since the inception of Haryana in 1966.
This distinction was earlier held by the 1996 Assembly elections which witnessed 93 female contestants, Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Shrikant Walgad said here today.
With as many as 168 candidates having withdrawn their nomination papers, as many as 1,350 candidates are left in the fray now. These include 1,241 male and 109 female candidates.

The maximum number of six female candidates are in the race for the Ateli Assembly constituency, Walgad added.
