Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today expressed serious concern over tendency among teachers to get their transfers managed instead of concentrating on teaching students.
"We have to evolve a stringent policy to ensure that teachers complete minimum stay of three years at a particular station so that the students do not suffer," he said while speaking at a function in a local school here.
"The government has imposed a complete ban on transfer of teachers, except in compelling circumstances," he said.
He suggested that there should be a psychological test before appointment of the teachers to analyse whether they have aptitude for teaching or have joined the profession only for the sake of it.
"Managing transfer from one school to another at the same station would not be tolerated and teachers should opt for willingly to render services in the rural areas," he stressed.
"The teachers should not take their profession as a business but as a mission and they should pay ample attention to weak students even after regular classes," the chief minister said adding that "their motive should be to bring out the best from the students besides inculcating human values in them".
"We need committed teachers, who give best services to the students under all circumstances and the teachers serving in far flung and remote areas with commitment should be brought to limelight to inspire other teachers," he added.
Singh said that the government has filled 1,300 posts of Post Graduate Teachers, 950 Trained Graduate teachers, 600 JBTs and 1,500 Classical and vernacular teachers and process to appoint 620 associate professors is on.
