Himachal Governor stresses upon promoting natural farming

Himachal Governor Acharya Devvrat today called upon famers to adopt natural farming and said that hewould recommend to the government to open Agriculture Science Center at Gumma near Sunni in Shimla district.

Stressing on promoting zero budgeting natural farming in the state, he said adequate steps should be taken for the same besides educating the people and farmers about the benefits of natural farming.

Consumers should also be educated to buy only natural products, the Governor said at a farmers' event.

He said that pesticides presently being used were not only harmful for health of consumers but were also destroying the fertility of soil and asked the farmers to adopt cycle of crops.
 

Traditional farming not only provided natural pesticides, but also promotes diversification of crops which in turn supplements the income of the farmers, he added.

The Governor said that farmers of state of Sikkim had adopted zero budgeting natural farming and were getting better results and returns.

He said that farmers should be encouraged to rear domestic cow instead of hybrid one imported from abroad and stressed that the cows found in hilly areas were significant in many ways.
