Himachal High Court has directed the Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) to make the state capital free of stray dogs within three months.

A division bench of High Court consisting of Acting Chief Justice R B Mishra and Justice Rajeen Sharma said that stray dogs have become a menace in Shimla.

Earlier the Court had asked SMC to pay compensation of Rs 1 lakh in a dog-bite case and directed it to make Shimla stray dog free. The order was challenged in Supreme Court by the state but the petition was dismissed.

Deputy Mayor of Shimla Municipal Corporation Tikender Panwar said that steps to implement the decision are being taken.
