Himachal HC directs state govt to file status report on Waqf

The Himachal Pradesh High Court today directed state government to file a status report and furnish details of Waqf properties in the state along with the particulars of possessors of the same and indicate therein as to whether any mosque or graveyard stands encroached and if so, by whom.

Adivision bench, comprising the Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Jutice Sandeep Sharma, passed the orders on a petition taken upsuo motoby the Court as Public Interest Litigation on a letter written to the Chief Justice by Mushtaq Qureshi, Member, HP Waqf Board.

During hearing of the petition, the Court arraigned the Secretary (Revenue) to government of Himachal Pradesh, Waqf Board through its Chairman and all the Deputy Commissioners of the entire state as party respondents in this matter.
 

The matter will be listed before the court on August 4, 2016.
