The Himachal Pradesh government has increased the award money for medal winners from the state in the Olympics, Commonwealth and the Asian games, Sports Minister Govind Singh said in the Assembly today.
He was replying to a question by BJP MLA Narendra Bragta during Question Hour on the second day of the ongoing Monsoon session.
Singh said sportspersons hailing from the state who won gold at the Olympics would now get Rs 2 crore, up from Rs 1 crore.
Similarly, silver and bronze medal winners in the Olympics would now get Rs 1 crore and Rs 50 lakh respectively, he added.
The minister added that the award money for gold, silver and bronze medal winners in Commonwealth and Asian games were increased to Rs 20 lakh, Rs 10 lakh and Rs 6 lakh respectively.
Asked about the progress of the construction work of a synthetic track in Saraswati Nagar, Singh said the same would be completed within two years.
