Amid uproar and vehement protests by student outfits, Himachal Pradesh university today decided to defer the proposed fee hike.

The Resource Mobilisation Committee (RMC) of the University today met under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof A D N Bajpai and decided that fee structure of Himachal Board of School Education would be the base for re-structuring the fee of Universities.

Also, the neighbouring states would be consulted in the process.

However, any final call to implement the fee hike would be subject to the approval of the executive Council.

The proposed fee hike from 2012-13 onwards was almost double the fee proposed in 2006.

Student Federation of India (SFI) activists, who wanted to present a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor against the fee hike alleged that they were cane-charged by the police.

However, the police denied any use of force and said that they were simply stopped from reaching the venue of the meeting.
