Himachal Pradesh has not conducted any fresh survey to assess the green cover in the state and was relying on data collected by the Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal in 2000.

"The state has 37,033 sq km area under forest cover and as per the forest institute report, the net worth of the forest was around Rs 40,860 crore," Forest Minister Thakur Singh Bharmouri informed the assembly today.

Replying to a supplementary, the minister said the government had not assessed the value of Khair trees separately.

When BJP member Mohinder Singh asked about the specification adopted by the Indian Institute of Forest Management for conducting the survey, the minister said he would look into it and furnish the information during the present session.
