Himalaya Diwas was celebrated across Uttarakhand today with Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat calling for the conservation of the mountains through partnership between the government and the people.

He said the Himalayas are the foundation of life in the country as all major rivers originate there.

Chief Minister also talked of 'three Cs' (Care, Conserve and Co-operate) and 'three Ps' (Plan, Produce and Promote)to conserve the Himalayan ecology and promote growing of fruit bearing plants by locals, which would give thememployment and help in stopping migration from remote villages.

"Governments alone cannot do enough to conserve the Himalayas. It has to be a collective endeavour with maximum participation of people in the exercise," Rawat said addressing a programme held at a local hotel to mark the occasion.
