History-sheeter attacks cops, held

A notorious history-sheeter, who attacked two police personnel was nabbed after being shot at and injured at Athimarapatti jungle area in this district today, police said.

The man, identified as Muthukumar (37), allegedly involved in a double murder and several other cases, was on the run after he had issued a murder threat to one Vijayaraj recently.

Following a tip-off that he was hiding in Athimarapatti forest area, a police team comprising sub-inspector Rennis and constable Muthurajan rushed to the spot.

The history-sheeter stabbed the SI and constable as they cornered him and tried to escape.

The inspector fired three rounds at Muthukumar, injuring him in his left thigh.
 

He was later remanded to judicial custody.

The injured SI and constable have been hospitalised.
