The leaders of these parties held informal consultations on forming a third front and reached the conclusion that people want an alternative to both the BJP and Congress.

These parties decided to go ahead with the move and formed a sub-committee to formalise the informal talks and prepare a "common minimum programme".

The first meeting of the sub-committee would be held here tomorrow and the alleged nexus between the BJP and Congress in Himachal would be exposed, HLP spokesman Tikku Thakur said.

The core group of HLP met here today under the chairmanship of its president Maheshwar Singh, who took strong notice of "ridiculous" statements being issued by the BJP leaders.

The HLP leaders ruled out the possibility of returning to BJP and decided to go ahead with its membership drive.

The meeting was attended by HLP Vice-President K D Dharmani and General Secretary Shyama Sharma and D C Guleria, spokesperson Mohinder Nath Sofat and president of Yuva Sena, Dherya Sushant.
