Hindu Munnani's Puducherry unit today sought the intervention of the Lt Governor to protect temple lands in the Union Territory.
A delegation of the HM led by its leader A M Sanilkumar today presented a petition to Lt Governor A K Singh alleging that there was unchecked disposal of temple lands under the pretext of various schemes.
The intention expressed by those who donated the lands to the temples in their will had been sidelined and pushed to the backburner, it was alleged.
The petition also alleged that those coming to power had encroached on the lands and ultimately disposed them depriving the temples of the sources to carry on their routine religious activities.
A copy of the petition was distributed to the media.
