Holiday declared for school for the second day tomorrow

With rains lashing for the last three days across Nilgiris district, administration today declared holiday for schools tomorrow, even as several areas went without power for two days, as trees fell on the power line.

The district collector, P Shanker ordered holiday for schools tomorrow also, considering the safety of the children, who were given holiday today, official sources said.

Several areas plunged into darkness, following snapping of power lines, as trees were uprooted and fell on the feeder lines in Gudalur, Kothagiri and this tourist town.

Two big trees fell on the Railway Police station and three trees near the district collectorate, disrupting traffic, police said.
 

Meanwhile, train services to Coonor from were cancelled today due to rains and falling of trees on the track. The services would resume tomorrow, if the track remains clear, railway department sources said.
