A host of Hollywood celebrities took to Twitter to express their shock at the news that Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt.
#Brangelina was trending on Twitter with people even making jokes about the couple's separation.
"Brad and Angelina. How am I supposed to go to work today?" wrote model Chrissy Teigen.
Piers Morgan wrote "I blame Donald Trump. #Brangelina."
Josh Gad tweeted "Before we get too cavalier about it, let's remember that #brangelina was possibly the only thing still holding the USA together."
A video Pitt's good friend George Clooney hearing about the news for the first time also went viral.
"I didn't know that. Wow. That's a sad story and unfortunate for a family. I feel very sorry to hear that. This is the first I've heard of it," he told CNN.
Actress Susan Sarandon, was not happy with the kind of attention the split of Hollywood's most popular couple was getting.
She bashed CNN to give more importance to the break up than the death of Terrence Crutcher, an unarmed black man, was shot and killed by a white policewoman in Tulsa, Okla.
"Priorities" with Crutcher's name as a hashtag and a screengrab of CNN's "It's over" headline on a picture of Pitt and Jolie," she wrote.
"WTF? Brad and Angelina?! I'm crushed," wrote actress Alyssa Milano.
British singer Adele dedicated her NYC concert to the former Hollywood couple.
"I'm dedicating this show tonight to the them. I don't like all the gossip, and personal lives are private. I woke up this morning, and I was shocked," she said.
TV star Spencer Pratt jokingly tweeted, "#Brangelina over what next. I feel bad for kids that aren't gonna get adopted by #brangelina now."
Model-TV personality Brandi Glanville tweeted, "PSA for all chicks Brad Pitt is officially single."
Actor-comedian Colin Jost posted, "Holy shit someone explain this Jolie-Pitt divorce in terms of Skittles because I don't understand it."
Social media was also flooded with memes featuring Jennifer Aniston, who was married to Pitt for five years when he started dating Jolie while filming "Mr & Mrs Smith."
Aniston star married Justin Theroux in 2015.
"I hope Jennifer Aniston is sitting on a beach somewhere drinking a margarita and writing in her journal," tweeted actress Laura Benanti.
Singer Boy George wrote, "It's sad about Brad and Angelina but it's also none of our business!"
Jolie, 41, filed for divorce on Monday citing irreconcilable differences after two years of marriage. The couple had been in a courtship of 10 years before tying the knot in 2014.
Sources said Jolie took the decision because she wasn't happy with Pitt's parenting ways.
The couple celebrated their second anniversary last month.
