Holy book sacrilege in Punjab village

A case of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib has been reported at Jahangir Gurdwara village on the outskirts of the city here, police said today.

The incident occurred yesterday when some unidentified persons entered the Gurdwara and allegedly tore a few pages of the Sikh holy scripture, SHO Kamboj, Shivdarshan Singh said.

A case has been registered against unidentified persons, he said, adding the culprits will be arrested shortly.

The investigation in the matter is going on a war footing, Singh added.

Punjab had witnessed many sacrilege incidents last year leading to widespread violence in the state. Two persons were killed in the incidents and many others injured.
