Kanpur police has arrested a home guard for alleged sexual abuse and extorting money by blackmailing a 20-year-old college student.

The home guard, Dharamveer Singh befriended the victim, a B.Tech student from Jaunpur at the Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University here in 2012. Singh abused the victim by making him unconscious and also made a video clip of the act last year.

Since then, he has been exploiting and extorting money from him by threatening to upload the video on the Internet. For the past six months, he had been held hostage and was consistently exploited by the accused at his Govindnagar residence, the police said.

He has extorted nearly 4 lakh rupees from the victim, they said. The victim escaped to his home in Jaunpur and recounted the entire incident to his family.

Upon a complaint by the victim's kin, the SSP ordered the Kalyanpur police to lodge an FIR in this connection.

"Based on the student's complain, we have registered an FIR and arrested the home guard. The victim has been sent for psychological counselling," SHO Kalyanpur Police Anand Mishra said.
