A Home guard with the Traffic Department was crushed to death by a container truck today when he tried to stop it for checking in Noida Phase II, police said.
The incident took place near Noida Special Economic Zone.
Home guards Rajesh Bhati and Kishan, who were on a motorcycle, tried to stop the truck for checking, police said.
When the truck did not stop, the two chased it, during which the truck driver hit their motorcycle.
Rajesh, who was the pillion rider, fell down and was crushed under the back wheels of the truck. The other home guard got injured.
The truck driver then lost control over the vehicle and it overturned. The helper of the truck Ramu died on the spot, police said, adding that the driver fled the scene.
A manhunt has been launched to nab him, they said.
Meanwhile, in another road accident reported in Sector 62 area last night, a man named Shiv Lalan died after being hit by a speeding bus, police said.
Efforts are on to locate the bus, they added.
