Gunmen shot dead a homeguard during patrolling and took away his rifle near Prajatantra chowk in Bihar's Nawada district, police said today.

Two motorcycle-borne men shot at the homeguard from close range killing him on the spot and snatched his riffle before fleeing late last night, Superintendent of Police Manavjit Singh Dhillo said.

The deceased was identified as Kishori Pandey.

Pandey, who was on night patrol along with two other homeguards, was attacked and killed when his two colleagues left the place to drink water, Dhillo said.
