Amid rising cases of chikungunya in the national capital, a homoeopathy doctors body today claimed that its medicine can "offer relief" to people from this vector-borne disease.

"Homoeopathy is the choice treatment for chikungunya as patients are being benifitted with homoeopathic treatment," Homoeopathic Medical Association of India (HMAI) Delhi President Dr A K Gupta claimed.

There is no cure for chikungnya and at present there is no scientific evidence to prove if homoeopathy can give desired results.

Transmitted by chikungunya virus carried by aedes mosquitoes, the symptoms of this vector-borne disease include, high fever, joint pains, rashes and weakness.

The symptoms are similar to dengue, but experts say chikungunya is generally not "life-threatening" but in rare cases can trigger complications which prove fatal, especially in elderly and children.

"Patients suffering pain after a bout of chikungunya are also relieved of it with homoeopathic medications," Gupta further claimed in a statement released by HMAI Delhi unit.

Doctors say the treatment of chikungunya is symptomatic and advise rest and lot of fluid intake and rest for recovery.

According to a municipal report released today, the number of cases of chikungunya in the city has risen to 2,625.
