Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) today reported a 37.93 per cent decline in its domestic sales at 11,407 units in June.

The company had sold 18,380 units in the same month last year, the automaker said in a statement.

Last month, HCIL sold 359 units of small car Brio, 2,593 units of premium hatchback Jazz, compact sedan Amaze (1,617), MPV Mobilio (140) and mid-sized sedan City (3,581).

The company also sold 3,064 units of its new compact sports utility vehicle (SUV), BR-V.

Besides, it sold 53 units of SUV CRV. In addition, it exported a total of 393 units during the month.

"The shift in consumer preferences led to high stock of diesel vehicles at our dealerships. As a deliberate measure, we have been rationalising wholesale dispatches to correct the stock situation at our dealerships," HCIL President and CEO Yoichiro Ueno said in a statement.

The market is good and the company's retail sales were much higher than wholesales, he added.

"The stock levels at dealerships have been almost normalised and we expect that our wholesales would match the retail sales level in July," Ueno said.
