Honda Cars India today reported a 17 per cent decline in domestic sales at 10,486 units in April.

It had sold 12,636 units in the same month last year, the automaker said in a statement.

Last month, Honda Cars India (HCIL) sold 198 units of small car Brio, 869 premium hatchback Jazz, 2,639 compact sedan Amaze, 374 MPV Mobilio and 5,793 mid-sized sedan City.

The company has dispatched 567 units of its yet-to-be-launched compact sports utility vehicle (SUV), BR-V.

Besides, the company sold 46 units of SUV CRV. In addition, it exported a total of 496 units during the month.

"The automobile industry is facing big challenge because of sudden shift in consumer preferences from diesel to petrol. Moreover, the continuing ban on diesel has also impacted consumer sentiment. All these have impacted HCIL sales as there is a big mismatch in demand and availability of required variants," HCIL Senior Vice-President, Marketing & Sales Jnaneswar Sen said.

The company is now taking corrective measures to address the situation, he added.

"Despite the current challenges, HCIL is confident of positive growth in this fiscal," Sen said.
